Trojan girls golf team secures second place finish

New Prague took second place at the Missota Conference championships Monday at the New Prague Golf Club, clinching a second place finish on the season.

Steph Neisen was medallist at the meet. The Trojan eighth-grader carded a 7-over par 79.

Last week, New Prague took third at a meet in Red Wing and sixth in the Lakeville Invitational.

Red Wing meet

Finishing in a downpour at Mississippi National Golf Club, New Prague took third place at a Missota Conference meet.

Red Wing won the meet with a score of 171, with Holy Angels second at 185. The Trojans scored 188, followed by Prior Lake with 197 and a three-way tie for fifth with Farmington, Northfield and Shakopee at 198. Hutchinson scored a 213.

Neisen tied for second overall with a 42. That was one stroke behind the lead.

Also scoring for the Trojans were Maria Pint and Daedra Culshaw with 47, Abbey Weiers with a 52, Kelly Vollmar 54 and Katelyn Proshek 56.

Lakeville Invitational

New Prague took part in the 18-team Lakeville Invitational at CreeksBend Golf Club in New Prague May 17. The Trojans placed sixth, with a score of 376. Red Wing won the meet with 334, while Chaska and Woodbury tied for second with 357. Faribault was fourth (366) and Spring Lake Park fifth (370).

Missota championships

The Trojans got good balance from the squad, as all six golfers shot below 100. Red Wing's 334 won the meet, well ahead of New Prague’s 355. The Trojans’ Neisen was medallist, scoring a 79, winning by four strokes over three Red Wing players that tied for second. Maria Pint was next for New Prague, with a 90, followed by Culshaw (91) and Vollmar (95). Proshek and Weiers both shot 96.

After Red Wing and New Prague, Northfield was third with a 371, followed by Holy Angels (380), Shakopee (382), Prior Lake (385), Farmington (387) and Hutchinson (396).

The Trojans’ score was by far their best in the last two years, and shows the team is peaking as it prepares for Thursday’s Section 1AA preliminaries. Neisen and Pint earned all-conference honors, and Proshek earned honorable mention.
