Trojan girls lose pair of WCC games

The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team, playing without leading scorer Catie Skaja, lost a pair of Wright County Conference games last week. New Prague, ranked No. 8 in Class A, lost to No. 7 Delano/Rockford and to No. 16 Mound Westonka.

Catie Skaja, who has missed the last four games while playing with the US 18U team at the IIHF World Tournament in the Czech Republic, was scheduled to return to action this week. The Trojans (7-8-3, 4-2-0 WCC) were scheduled to face Holy Family/Waconia Tuesday, Jan. 17. New Prague hosts Orono Thursday, Jan. 19, and will play at Litchfield/ Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, Jan 24.

Tigers 2, Trojans 1 A year ago, Delano/Rockford did not even have its own team, with athletes from the two schools playing with the Buffalo program. Delano organizers decided the time was right to start their own program, and the No. 7-ranked Tigers have become a team to reckon with in both the Wright County Conference and Section 2A. The Tigers knocked off the defending section champion Trojans 2-1 Tuesday, Jan. 10, in New Prague.

The Tigers scored the game’s first goal midway through the first period. The Trojans evened it at 11:19 of the second when Kaitlyn Blair scored unassisted.

The game appeared headed to overtime when the Tigers scored with just 25 second remaining on the clock, claiming the win 2-1.

Delano/Rockford outshot the Trojans 35-16. Sydney Culshaw stopped 33 of 35 shots.

Whitehawks 3, Trojans 0 Unlike three nights earlier, New Prague had plenty of shots on goal, but they could not..
