Trojan girls skate to three wins

New Prague won three games in girls hockey last week, defeating Farmington, Faribault and Prior Lake. The Trojans, ranked No. 6 in Class A, upped their record to 10-7-2, 8-1-0 in the Missota Conference, as they enter the final two weeks of the season.

The Trojans were scheduled to play Tuesday at Red Wing. They travel to Prior Lake Friday as part of a girl-boy doubleheader, with the girls game starting at 5:15 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 30, they play at Shakopee. They host Holy Angels in a game that could determine the conference championship at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1. The Stars are unbeaten in the conference, while the Trojans' only conference loss was to the Holy Angels on January 9.

The regular season ends Saturday, Feb. 3, when the Trojans host Northfield at noon. The Section 2A playoffs begin Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Trojans 5, Tigers 2

New Prague defeated Farmington 5-2 on the Trojans' home ice Thursday, Jan. 18. New Prague jumped to a quick lead, with Jenna Kilpatrick scoring just 15 seconds into the contest, from Kacy Ambroz and Brooke Bartelt. Ambroz scored at 1:56, from Kilpatrick and Bartelt. Kilpatrick added an unassisted goal at 12:46.

After a scoreless second period, the Tigers made a game of it, scoring twice in the first three minutes of the period. New Prague got an insurance goal from Kilpatrick at 13:00, then Ambroz scored, from Kilpatrick, at 16:19 to ice the game.

New Prague outshot the Tigers 28-25, with Daedra Culshaw stopping 23 shots for the win.

The game was important for section seeding purposes, as the Trojans and Tigers are considered two of the favorites in Section 2A.

Trojans 7, Falcons 3

Faribault kept up with the Trojans for two periods, but wasn't able to sustain the effort as New Prague scored three third period goals to come away with a 7-3 win Saturday in Faribault. Ambroz figured in all seven of the goals for New Prague, and Kilpatrick was in on five of them.

The Falcons scored at the 3:43 mark of the first period. Ambroz tied the game with an assist from Kilpatrick at 10:26. Ambroz returned the favor at 12:46, assisting on a goal by Kilpatrick.

Fairbault tied the game with a goal just seven seconds into the second period, but Ambroz wouldn't let it last long, scoring from Kilpatrick 31 seconds into the period. The same combination made it a 4-2 game at 3:41. Faribault scored a power play goal at 8:40, making it a 4-3 game.

Courtney Sivula scored two goals in the third period to put the game out of reach. The first came at 7:50, with assists by Ambroz and Jackie Klanchnik and the second on a power play at 14:00, with Ambroz and Kilpatrick assisting. Ambroz got the final goal, from Sivula, at 15:15

Culshaw stopped 20 shots as the Trojans outshot the Falcons 26-23.

Trojans 7, Lakers 3

New Prague defeated Prior Lake in a makeup game 7-3 Monday at New Prague.

New Prague jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first period on a pair of goals by Kilpatrick and one by Ambroz. Kilpatrick scored the first one at 2:24. Prior Lake tied the game with a shorthanded goal at 4:27, but Ambroz scored just six seconds later on the power play to give the Trojans the lead for good. Kilpatrick scored at 8:25 to make it 3-1.

New Prague got another goal from Ambroz 17 seconds into the period, then Paschke scored a shorthanded goal on a nice effort, diving in front of the goalie to knock the puck in, at 15:04. Kilpatrick and Ashley Jones assisted.

Both teams scored twice in the final period, with Ambroz getting both Trojan goals.

Culshaw stopped 20 shots as the Trojans outshot the Lakers 41-23.
