Trojan girls still winless in Missota

New Prague High School's girls hockey team overcame its scoring slump in a big way Friday, Jan. 16, at Northfield. After going more than three games (171 minutes) without lighting the lamp, the Trojans scored twice in the first four minutes of their game against Northfield.

New Prague led most of the way, but Northfield tied the game with four minutes remaining, then scored the game-winner with eight seconds left in regulation for a 4-3 win.

The Trojans also tied Hutchinson 0-0 last week. Coming off of two strong showings against state ranked teams (Northfield is ranked No. 7 and Hutchinson is ranked No. 17), the Trojans (4-13-2, 0-6-2 Missota) were scheduled to host Farmington Tuesday, Jan. 20. On Friday, Jan. 23, they play at Red Wing, then Thursday, Jan. 29, they are at Shakopee.

Trojans 0, Tigers 0

New Prague was hoping to get the upper hand on Hutchinson, which right now looks like they will be the No. 2 seed in the Section 2A playoffs. They peppered the Tiger goaltender with 34 shots on goal, but none of them could find their way in the net.

On the bright side, the Trojan defense played superbly and goaltender Shyler Sletta was up to the task as she stopped all 19 shots she faced. The game ended in a scoreless tie. It was Sletta's second shutout this season. The other was also a scoreless tie against Red wing on December 12.

Raiders 4, Trojans 3

Shannon Meyer and Hallie Paschke broke the scoring drought for the Trojans with a pair of goals less than a minute apart. Meyer scored at 2:47 of the first period, on an assist from Mariah Holicky. Those two assisted on Paschke's goal just 40 seconds later, giving the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

The Raiders scored later in the period, then tied it at 10:55 of the second.

The Trojans' Brooke Bartelt put her team in front with an unassisted goal at 14:04 of the second.

New Prague tried to hold on, but the Raiders scored with 13:52 to tie it at 3-3. They got the game winner with just eight seconds left.

The Raiders outshot the Trojans 24-21. Sletta stopped 20 of 24 shots for the Trojans.
