Trojan girls strong in 3 golf meets
New Prague High School's girls golf team had three matches last week. The Trojans were third in a Missota Conference match hosted by Holy Angels, placed fourth in the Red Wing Invitational and won the Redwood Valley Invitational.
They are off until Wednesday, May 2, when they host Hutchinson, Northfield and Red Wing in a match at the New Prague Golf Club.
The Trojans were ranked No. 8 in the state by the Minnesota Golf Coaches Association ratings, which uses a system based on an average of team scores. New Prague's Steph Neisen was ranked No. 3 in Class AA.
At Emerald Greens GC
Holy Angels hosted a Missota Conference match at Emerald Greens GC in Hastings, with the Trojans placing third.
Red Wing won the meet with a 349, followed by Northfield (357), New Prague (359), Holy Angels (378), Shakopee (399), Farmington (401), Hutchinson (408) and Prior Lake (429).
Neisen was medallist for the match, carding a 73, nine strokes ahead of the second-place finishers. Teammate Amber Hauser shot an 89, while Daedra Culshaw shot a 96 and Breanna Bisek a 101. Also competing for the Trojans were Alyssa Reimers with a 109 and Emily Culshaw with a 113.
At Mississippi National GC
The Trojans shot a 369 to place fourth at the Red Wing Invitational Thursday, April 19. The host Wingers won the match with a 336. Northfield second at 353, followed by Lakeville North (366), New Prague (369), Owatonna (378), Rochester Mayo (384), Rochester John Marshall (386), Red Wing Gold (431) and Winona (436).
Neisen led the Trojans with an 87, with Daedra Culshaw close behind with an 89. Houser shot a 91 and Bisek a 102 to round out the top four.
Coach Matt Shetka said losing to Lakeville North was tough. This was the third time we've seen them this year
