Trojan girls top Stars, Tigers

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team continues to impress as they won a pair of games last week.

The Trojans overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Holy Angels 66-53 on Friday, Feb. 4, and the next afternoon they defeated Albert Lea 72-42 in a makeup game. That game had been scheduled for February 1, but was postponed due to poor weather conditions in the Albert Lea area.

New Prague (14-5, 6-2 Missota) is rated No. 8 in Class AAA. They are scheduled to host Northfield Tuesday, Feb. 8. They have two more home games this week, facing Prior Lake at 6 p.m. Thursday in the first half of a girl-boy doubleheader, then taking on Chaska Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. New Prague travels to Shakopee (No 10, Class AAAA).

Four of New Prague's five losses this season are to teams currently ranked in the top 10 in Class AAAA (Hopkins, Minnetonka, Eastview and Shakopee). Prior to Tuesday's games the Trojans were in a four-way tie for first place in the Missota with Farmington, Shakopee and Chanhassen, which handed the Trojans their other loss.
