Trojan gymnasts take 4th at state
The New Prague High School gymnastics team got off to a slow start, but finished strong in the last two events to place 4th in the Minnesota State High School Class A Gymnastics Meet on Friday, Feb. 23.
New Prague struggled on the bars in their opening rotation and also had a rough time on the balance beam, but had strong outings on the floor exercise and vault.
Senior Melanie Deutsch scored a 9.5 on the floor exercise and sophomore Alysha Gareis scored a 9.55 on the vault to lead the comeback.
Perham won the meet with a 149.6. Pine Island took second with 143.75; Becker, third with 143.625 and the Trojans finished fourth with 143.225.
Five Trojans will compete in the individual meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
