Trojan icemen get pair of road wins

New Prague High School's boys hockey team claimed two wins on the road last week. The Trojans defeated Orono 5-2 and Austin 8-0.

New Prague, 4-1-0 on the season, was scheduled to play at Waseca Tuesday, Dec. 18. They return home for a non-conference game against Delano/Rockford at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, and travel to Richfield to face Holy Angels in a Missota Conference contest at 2:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22.

New Prague plays at Northfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.

Trojans 5, Spartans 3

New Prague got its first win over Orono since the two teams began yearly meetings six years ago. The Trojans never trailed in the game, but it was a tight contest throughout. New Prague outshot the Spartans 32-27.

Five players scored for the Trojans. Drew Feuk got the Trojans on the board with a goal at 13:43 of the first period, with Schyler Adams and Sam Olson assisting. Orono tied the game in the final minute of the period, and it was 1-1 at the first intermission.

Seth Ambroz put the Trojans on top for good with a shorthanded goal at 8:54. Again, Adams got the assist. Tyler Witty scored at 11:52 of the second to make it a 3-1 game, with Alec Doig assisting. Orono scored less than a minute later to make it a 3-2 game.

Adams scored the Trojans' second shorthanded goal of the night at 4:06 in the third period with Doig assisting, and New Prague got a goal from Tyler Lapic, with Olson and Darren Lapic assisting on the power play at 7:28.

Orono would score a power play goal at 12:22, but that was all New Prague would give up. Collin Schoenecker stopped 28 of 31 shots for the Trojans.

New Prague got two goals each from Adams and Ambroz, and New Prague's top line sat out the third period as New Prague dominated the action for the opening minutes in an 8-0 win over Austin.

Adams scored on an assist from Aaron Kes at 1:06, and Ambroz made it 2-0 at 12:01, with Darren Lapic assisting.

Feuk, Darren Lapic, Ambroz and Adams scored goals in the second period. In the third, it was Thomas Fadden, with Doig and Tony Schmitz assisting, and Schmitz assisted on the final goal from Treven Smith.

New Prague blistered Austin goaltender Aaron Dooley with 62 shots on goal, 29 of them in the second period. Schoenecker registered his second shutout of the season, facing just 11 shots.
