Trojan netters avenge earlier loss, beat Lakers 5-2

New Prague High School's girls tennis team avenged an earlier loss by winning when it counted, taking a 5-2 Missota Conference win over Prior Lake Thursday, Sept. 7.

The Trojans had lost to the Lakers during the Lakeville North tournament on August 23. Back then, the Trojans were still trying to settle on their lineup.

Since losing to the Lakers, New Prague has won four of five matches. The win over Prior Lake put the Trojans above the .500 mark on the season, at 5-4.

The Trojans swept the doubles competition against Prior Lake. Anna Witty and Allison Stupica had an impressive showing at No. 1 doubles, with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Briana Skluzacek and Rena Kneeland took their No. 2 doubles match by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Jenna Schoenbauer and Meredith Goulson rounded out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

In singles, the Trojans won two matches handily, with No. 2 player Megan Kubes taking a 6-1, 6-1 win and Kelsey Stupica shutting out her opponent in the No. 3 spot, taking a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Tanya Halloran lost at No. 1 singles, losing a tiebreaker in the first set. Scores were 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. Sara Lang lost her match at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Coach Matt Duoos said he was pleased with the effort and with the progress of his doubles teams.
