Trojan softball team falls to Sabers, Tigers

New Prague High School’s softball team dropped a pair of games last week, losing to Shakopee 10-3 on Thursday and to Hutchinson 14-3 on Friday. The Trojans also had a game with Prior Lake postponed by rain until Friday, May 6.

New Prague was scheduled to face Red Wing on Tuesday. On Thursday, May 5, they host Holy Angels in a doubleheader. After hosting Prior Lake Friday they play at Farmington on Tuesday, May 10, and host Northfield Thursday, May 12.

Sabers 10, Trojans 3

The Trojans grabbed an early lead, but couldn’t hold off the Sabers, who took a come-from-behind win at Shakopee.

The Trojans scored all their runs in the second inning. Ashley Feneis led off with a base hit, Susan Nytes reached on an error and Laura Knoke was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Amanda Stocker singled, driving in a run.

The next two hitters struck out, but then Kacy Ambroz hit an RBI single and Anna Witty drew a basesloaded walk.

Shakopee got one run back in the third on an error, a sacrifice, a wild pitch and a groundout. They scored three runs in each of the next three innings to take the win.

Stocker had two hits for the Trojans and Katie Gerdes had a leadoff double in the fifth and moved to third on a wild pitch with no one out, but she was thrown out on a fielder’s choice.

Katie Trewartha pitched for the Trojans. In six innings she allowed seven hits and 10 runs, none of them earned, while striking out three and walking one.
