Trojan sports update
New Prague wins one, loses one in 2AAA softball
New Prague High School's softball team won its first round Section 2AAA playoff game, defeating Willmar 12-6 Tuesday at Caswell Park in North Mankato. The Trojans lost a tough, 1-0 game to Mankato East in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.
Against Willmar, Alex Wagner and Anissa Svoboda combined for five strikeouts and the Trojans scored six runs in the third to take a 10-4 lead and then held on.
In the second game, Jess Hoffman allowed just four hits and struck out four. East scored an unearned run in the fifth and that was all they would need.
New Prague will face Chaska in an elimination game at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Caswell Park. Should they win, they would face either Waconia or Hutchinson at 7 p.m.
Adapted softball team to host playoff game
New Prague's adapted softball team will host Buffalo in a play-in game to qualify for the State Adapted Softball Tournament - CI Division. The game will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Central Education Campus gym.
The Trojans were in a five-way tie for fourth place in the Southern Division, and received the No. 4 seed in a random draw. New Prague is 4-10 while the Bison, 6-8, are the No. 5 seed in the north. The winner advances to the State CI Adapted Softball tournament May 30 and 31 at Coon Rapids High School.
