Trojan Stadium to host State Tournament game
New Prague’s Trojan Stadium will host a State Football Tournament quarterfinal game Friday, Nov. 11.
The Rushford-Peterson Trojans and Murray County Central Rebels of Slayton will face off at 7 p.m.
Rushford-Peterson is 10-1 and were the No. 1 seed in Section 1A. They defeated Fillmore Central 22-21 in the Section 1A championship game Saturday, Nov. 5.
The game will be a sort of homecoming for two members of the Rushford-Peterson coaching staff. Jake Timm is principal at the school and an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach at New Prague under Tony Buthe. Joe Hatch, a former New Prague player, is also an assistant coach.
Murray County Central is 8-3 and were the No. 3 seed in their section. They upset No. 2 seed Red Rock Central and No. 1 seed Adrian 27-26 in overtime to reach the state tournament.
Winners of this week’s quarterfinal games will advance to the state semifinals, which will be held at US Bank Stadium November 17-19. The Prep Bowl state championship games are November 25 and 26, also at US Bank Stadium.
