Trojan tennis team beats Sabers, Saints
New Prague High School's girls tennis team won two of three matches last week, beating Shakopee and St. Peter and losing to Holy Angels.
The Trojans (2-1 Missota, 7-5 overall) finish off the regular season in the next week. On Thursday, they play at Northfield and Friday they have a makeup match with Orono. The Trojans host Mankato East on Monday and Farmington Tuesday, and finish the regular season Thursday, Sept. 28, at Red Wing.
The Section 2AA tournament will begin October 3.
Trojans 5, Sabers 2
New Prague took a 5-2 win over Shakopee Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Trojans lost at No. 1 singles (Tanya Halloran) and No. 1 doubles (Anna Witty and Allison Stupica).
Megan Kubes took a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, while Kelsey Stupica won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and Sara Lang defeated her opponent at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-4.
Briana Skluzacek and Rena Kneeland won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, and Evan O'Malley and Meredith Goulson won at No. 3 doubles, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Stars 5, Trojans 2
New Prague lost their first conference match of the season to Holy Angels, 5-2.
New Prague's wins were from Kubes at No. 1 singles and Skluzacek and Kneeland at No. 2 doubles. No other results were available.
Trojans 4, Saints 3
The Trojans won a 4-3 decision over St. Peter Friday, Sept. 15, using a different lineup for this non-conference match.
The Trojans got two wins at singles, from Kelsey Stupica at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0, and Kneeland at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Witty and Halloran won 6-1, 6-3, and at No. 2 doubles, Skluzacek and Allison Stupica won 6-4, 6-4.
Kubes lost at No. 1 singles, Lang lost at No. 4 singles and Amanda Powell and Jenna Schoenbauer lost at No. 2 doubles.
