Trojan tennis team wins two
New Prague High School's girls tennis team won two matches last week, both by a 6-1 score. In the process, they evened their record at 4-4 on the season.
The Trojans start their Missota Conference schedule this week. They host Prior Lake on Thursday, Sept. 7, play at Shakopee Tuesday, Sept. 12, and at Holy Angels on Thursday, Sept. 14. New Prague will have the opportunity to avenge two of their losses, as they lost to Prior Lake and Holy Angels earlier this year at the Lakeville North tournament.
Trojans 6, Whitehawks 1
New Prague defeated Mound-Westonka 6-1 on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at home.
The Trojans swept the singles competition and won two of three doubles matches.
The top three singles players, Tanya Halloran, Megan Kubes and Kelsey Stupica all took one-side matches. No. 1 singles player Halloran won 6-1, 6-2, Kubes, at No. 2 singles, won 6-0, 6-0 and Stupica, at No. 3 singles, won 6-1, 6-1. Sara Lang came from behind at No. 4 singles to win her match, 4-6, 7-6 (7-0), 6-1.
Anna Witty and Allison Stupica won their match at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-3, while Briana Skluzacek and Rena Kneeland won at No. 2 doubles, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3 doubles, Evan O'Malley and Meredith Goulson lost 6-1, 6-4.
Trojans 6, Giants 1
Once again, the singles swept through the competition for New Prague as the Trojans defeated Le Sueur-Henderson 6-1 Thursday, Aug. 31, at Le Sueur.
Halloran won her match 6-2, 6-0, Kubes won 3-6, 6-4, (10-4). Kelsey Stupica won 6-2, 6-2 and Lang won 6-1, 6-1.
