Trojan track teams take two titles

The New Prague High School boys and girls track and field teams made school history Friday, May 30, as both the boys and girls teams won the Section 2AA championships. New Prague had never won a section track championship in Minnesota State High School League competition.

New Prague's boys team scored 122 points, 30 more than second place Willmar. The girls competition was closer, with New Prague tallying 118 points, four better than Mankato West.

The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

The boys will have nine entries. Tony Johnson won four events - the 200-meter dash, the high jump, triple jump and long jump. Drew Feuk finished second in the pole vault, 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. The Trojans other entries will be Adam Michel, who was second in the triple jump, and Dustin Haeg, first in the discus.

The girls will have seven entries in the state meet, all of which finished first at the section meet. They are Jenny Hendricks in the 800, Rena Kneeland in the 300 hurdles, Kristin Carr in the high jump, Danielle Busch in the pole vault, Brit Rynda in the triple jump, Ellie Reinke in the discus, and the 4x400 relay team of Rynda, Kneeland, Taylor Rookaird and Makayla Reimers.
