Trojan wrestlers earn split at East triangular
New Prague High School's wrestling team split a pair of matches Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Mankato East Triangular. New Prague opened with a 39-32 loss to Le Sueur-Henderson, then defeated the host Cougars 62-15.
New Prague will return to the mat at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, for a three-team meet at Farmington. New Prague faces Farmington and Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center.
Giants 39, Trojans 32
New Prague looked strong early, winning three of the first four matches for a 14-3 lead. Richard Reinartz opened with a forfeit win at 103 and Aaron Redding took a technical fall at 119. Morgan Parriott defeated the Giants' Brett Pfarr, a ranked wrestler, at 125 pounds.
But the Giants won the next three matches to take a 21-14 lead, a lead they would never relinquish. The Trojans got a fall at 145 pounds from Jesse Cole to pull to within one at 21-20, but LSH got three falls and a decision in the next four matches to put things out of reach. The Trojans won the final two matches by fall, with Jay Reinke winning at 215 pounds and Zach Molitor at 285 to make the final 39-32.

Trojans 62, Cougars 15
New Prague dominated the second match of the evening, winning the first four matches for a 23-6 lead. Reinartz opened with a technical fall, then Dakota Cole and Redding scored falls and Parriott won by forfeit.
After a Giant pin, the Trojans won the next seven matches. Josh Meyer (135 pounds) won by forfeit, Nick McGuiggan (140) won by fall, Jesse Cole (145) won by forfeit, Andy Reinartz (152) by fall, David Doran (160) by decision, Roger Sirek (171) by fall and Reinke (189) by fall. The Cougars won the final two matches to make the final 62-15.
Sirek's win at 171 came in the final seconds of the first period. Trailing 3-2, he reversed his opponent and put him on his back. Andy Reinartz' win was also a come-from-behind victory. He trailed 9-3 in the second period before reversing his opponent for the fall.
