Trojans close regular season with win

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team closed out its season with a 62-59 win over Northfield Friday, March 2, in the Trojan gym.

Luke Rynda opened the game with three straight three-pointers to give the Trojans an early 9-2 lead, but the Raiders fought back and the lead changed hands several times throughout the game.

Trojan junior Paul Friendshuh had a frustrating first half, being held scoreless and going to the bench early with two fouls. But he made up for it in the second half. He scored 19 points to lead the Trojans, while Rynda had 14.

New Prague finishes the regular season with a 17-8 record. They finished third in the MIssota Conference with a 9-5 record. Shakopee and Holy Angels tied for the conference championship at 11-3

The Trojans next game will be Wednesday, March 6, in the Section 1AAA quarterfinals. Seeding for the tournament will take place Sunday. New Prague will most likely be seeded No. 2, behind unbeaten Austin. The top four seeds host first round games. Semifinals are Saturday, March 9, at the high seed, and the Section championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
