Trojans edge Waconia in shortened ‘Last Chance’ meet

New Prague hosted a "Last Chance" track meet Tuesday, May 24, to close out the regular season. The Trojan girls had 49 personal records and the team scored 149 points in an abbreviated meet, as a thunderstorm put an early end to the meet with five events not completed.

New Prague edged Wright County Conference rival Waconia by 1.5 points, with the Trojans scoring 149 to the Wildcats’ 147. Waseca was third at 81, followed by Trinity School at River Ridge (71.5), Kasson-Mantorville (58) and Holy Family Catholic (8). They won the meet despite having only one first place finish, with McKenzie Holgate winning the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 49.44 seconds.

The Trojans’ depth proved a key, with multiple place winners in most events. There were seven second place finishes: Mikayla Breiner, triple jump; Randi Allar, high jump; Ashley Shimek, 100 hurdles; Delaney McLoone, 100 m; Alyssa Dvorak, 300 hurdles, and three relays, the 4x800 (Catie Skaja, Tasha Bennett, Kate Chromy, Hannah McWilliams), 4x200 (Evy Potter, Emma Anderson, Kate Seymour, Molly Giesen) and 4x100 (Keegan Mulvihill, Allar, Shimek, Serena Thomas).

Placing third for the Trojans were Shannon O’Rourke, high jump; Josie Herrmann, 400 m and Shimek, 200 m. Taking fourth place for New Prague were.....
