Trojans host Prior Lake in finale Thursday

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team will conclude its regular season Thursday, Feb. 19, when they host Prior Lake at the New Prague rink. New Prague (16-7, 8-5 Missota) will likely be one of the top seeds for the Section 1A boys hockey tournament, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 24.

As one of the top seeds, the Trojans will have a first-round bye and will host a quarterfinal game on Thursday, Feb. 26.

The semifinals and championship game will be played at the Rochester Rec Center. Seeding for the section will be announced later this week.

In three games last week the Trojans scored in bunches, as they won three games, against Northfield, Farmington and Mankato East, by a combined score of 28-6.

Trojans 7, Raiders 2

The Trojans broke a 2-2 tie with three goals in the second period and added two more in the third for an 7-2 win over Northfield Tuesday, Feb. 10.

New Prague outshot the Raiders 46-14. The Trojans had two goals from Darren Lapic and one each from Tyler Lapic, Schyler Adams, Curt Brezina, Jordan Holicky and Sam Olson. Tyler Lapic and Treven Smith both had three assists, Adams had two and Darren Lapic, Mitch Lunder, Tyler Witty and Aaron Kes had one each.

Joe Morris got the win in goal.

Trojans 8, Tigers 4

The Trojans tried to break open the game against Farmington several times, the Tigers kept clawing back. New Prague went up 2-0 with a pair of goals midway through the first period, only to have the Tigers tie the game. The Trojans led 4-2 and 5-3, only to have Farmington come back to within one.

After the Tigers cut the lead to one with a goal early in the third, Smith answered 24 seconds later with a goal. Adams and Kes added goals later in the period to ice the game.

Adams finished with three goals and an assist while Tyler Lapic had a goal and three assists. Kes scored two goals and Brezina had a goal and two assists. Darren Lapic added two assists. Also scoring for the Trojans were Smith with a goal and Lunder, Zach Adams, Adam Corr and Fadden each with an assist.

Morris stopped 16 of 20 for the win. New Prague outshot Farmington 44-20.

Trojans 13, Cougars 0

Senior goaltender Dan Forberg, playing his first year of high school hockey, got the start on senior night and stopped all 20 shots for a shutout win.

Forberg had plenty of offensive support as 13 different Trojans found the scoring column in the 13-0 win.

Schyler Adams and Tyler and Darren Lapic, the Trojans' top line, had five points each. Adams, who is second in the state in goal scoring, had four goals and an assist, Tyler Lapic had a goal and four assists and Darren Lapic had five assists.

Tyler Witty added two goals, both short-handed, and an assist. Curt Brezina also had a pair of goals, and Thomas Fadden and Chris Meyer each had a goal and an assist. Kes and Olson scored the other two goals for the Trojans. Adding assists were Cody Meyer, Tony Schmitz and Holicky.
