Trojans move into AA wrestling rankings
The New Prague Trojan wrestling team has moved into the “Dirty Dozen” state rankings published by The Guillotine magazine. New Prague is ranked No. 11 in Class AA in the most recent ratings, released Friday, Feb. 10.
The Trojans had been listed as “Lean and Mean” most of the season, meaning they received consideration, but were not in the top 12. In the past two weeks, the Trojans defeated Wabasso/Red Rock Central (ranked No. 8 at the time) and had close losses to ranked teams from Hutchinson and Foley.
The ratings include four teams from Section 2AA, Scott West at No. 2, Hutchinson at No. 7 and Waconia at No. 8 are the others.
Two Trojans are ranked in their weights - Nick Arguedas is No. 5 at 160 pounds and Brennan Rutt is No. 8 at 182.
The Section 2AA team meet begins Thursday, Feb. 16, with the top four teams hosting first and second round matches. Seedings will be announced Monday. Semifinals and Finals are set for Saturday, Feb. 18, at Jordan High School. Individual section competition is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, at Waseca.
