Trojans spikers get much-needed win

New Prague High School's volleyball team got a much-needed win last week against Northfield.

The Trojans outlasted the Raiders, going the full five games to take a 28-26, 13-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-8 win. It was New Prague's first conference win of the season and gives them a 4-11-1 record on the season. Earlier in the week, the Trojans lost a Missota Conference match with Farmington.

New Prague was scheduled to play at Belle Plaine Tuesday. This weekend the Trojans will compete in the Lakeville North Tournament. The tourney features a strong 16-team field that includes nine state-ranked teams. That includes five in Class AAA (No. 1 Shakopee, No. 2 Lakeville North, No. 6 Owatonna, No. 8 Blaine and No. 9 Eastview), three in Class AA (No. 1 Jordan, No. 5 Hibbing and No. 6 Marshall) and one in Class A. (No. 5 Mayer Lutheran). New Prague will have two games on Friday and two more on Saturday.

The Trojans conclude their Missota Conference schedule next week, hosting Prior Lake on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and playing at Red Wing Thursday, Oct. 13.

Tigers 3, Trojans 0

Despite being swept by the Tigers, who were tied for first place in the Missota Conference at the time, coach Pauline Mankowski was upbeat about her team's performance.

I think this was our best-played match of the season
