Trojans, Stars to meet for share of Missota title

New Prague's girls hockey team will host Holy Angels Thursday, Feb. 1, with a share of the Missota Conference title on the line.

The Stars (21-3-0, 12-1-0 Missota) have already clinched a share of the crown, while the Trojans (13-8-3, 10-2-0) can have a chance to tie for the league lead with a win Thursday. The Trojans will have one more game remaining, Saturday afternoon against Northfield at the New Prague Community Center.

New Prague and Holy Angels have already played twice this season. The first meeting, in the South St. Paul Kaposia Classic, resulted in a 3-2 overtime win for Holy Angels, while the second game, January 9 at Richfield, was a 6-0 win for the Stars. New Prague has never beaten Holy Angels in girls hockey in the eight years they have fielded a girls hockey team.

New Prague defeated Red Wing and Prior Lake last week, but the Trojans were upset by Shakopee 5-4 Tuesday evening. Details on the Shakopee game will be in next week's edition of The Times.

This weekend, coaches in Section 2A will meet and seed teams for the section tournament. New Prague and Farmington are likely to get the top two seeds and a first round bye; however, complicating things is the fact that Richfield, with a 13-8-1 record, has wins over both New Prague and Farmington.

The third and fourth seeds will host first round section games on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Section semifinals will be played Saturday, Feb. 10, at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood.

The Section 2A championship game will be played Friday, Feb. 16, at Aldrich.
