Trojans sweep home invitational

New Prague hosted its annual invitational cross country meet Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the New Prague Golf Club. The weather was warm and threatening, but thunderstorms held off until after the meet was concluded. The Trojans won both the boys and girls varsity competitions in the 10-team field.

The Trojans will compete in the Missota Conference championships at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. On Tuesday, Oct. 17, New Prague competes in the Shakopee Invitational.

Boys edge Farmington

New Prague scored 51 points, two points ahead of Farmington, to win the boys competition.

Belle Plaine finished third in the meet with 89 points, followed by Norwood Young America (112), Mankato Loyola (117), Jordan (156), Montgomery-Lonsdale (169), Le Sueur-Henderson (173), Cannon Falls (272) and St. Peter (incomplete).

Marcus Piepho of Loyola won the meet in 17 minutes, 16 seconds, edging New Prague's Preston Tomlinson by one second.

Two other Trojans finished in the top 10. Drew Revak was fifth in 18:08 and Matt Perkinson was eighth in 18:36. Other Trojans competing were Allan Friedges (16th place, 19:13), Marty Herrmann (20th, 19:23), John Solheid (33rd, 19:45) and Neal Lambrecht (39th, 20:00).

Girls win too

The Trojan girls had a little easier time in their meet, scoring 49 points to place first. Belle Plaine was a distant second with 82 points.

Norwood Young America was third with 98, followed by Jordan (122), Farmington (128), Loyola (133), St. Peter (184), Cannon Falls and Le Sueur-Henderson (both 186), and Montgomery-Lonsdale (215).

Loyola's Dani Stack won the meet in a time of 15:19, more than a minute ahead of her teammate, Stephanie Price, who was second in 16:23. Amanda Wagner of New Prague was third in 16:30.

Also finishing in the top 10 for New Prague were Annie Connelly, fifth in 16:47, and Jenny Hendricks, eighth in 16:55.

Also running for New Prague were Charlie Herrmann (13th, 17:21), Veronica Kneeland (20th, 17:52), Danielle Tikalsky (32nd, 18:11) and Kelsey Wiebusch (36th, 18:28).

JV results

No team scores were kept in the JV race, but the Trojans had four runners in the top 25 of the boys race. They were Ashton Hlavac (7th, 20:37), Andy O'Neill (11th, 20:59), Anthony Kveene (13th, 21:12), and Matt Revak (21st, 21:44).

In the girls JV race, New Prague took the first three places. Anna Rynda won the meet with a time of 17:48, followed by Abbey Wymer in 18:05 and Hallie Tietz in 18:16. Marissa Schoenecker finished 10th, Anna Ziemet was 22nd, Samantha Zweber was 25th and Becky Kollasch was 26th.

Middle School results

New Prague won the boys middle school division with 41 points, 17 ahead of second place Loyola.

The Trojans' top finisher was Alex Hendricks in sixth place. Zach Johnson was ninth and Kyle Strand 10th. Michael Beatrez was 15th, Adam Revak 16th, Andy Roach 17th and Joey Soderlund was 18th.

In the girls race, New Prague took first with 23 points, and Norwood Young America second with 48.

Annie Dittberner, finished second for New Prague, while Lauren Carr was sixth, Emily Rezac seventh, and Maria Friedges eighth. Nikki Russell was 10th and Tori Stricker 11th for the Trojans, while Shannon Russell finished 13th and Rochelle Widmer 15th. Others in the top 25 were Katie Gage, 18th, Nicole McQueen 19th and Katelyn Sticha 20th. Emily Burton was 26th and Amanda Geyer 27th.
