Trojans top Cougars in 1AAAA opener
Emily Schmitz broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single and New Prague scored three more runs in the sixth inning, including a leadoff homer from Nichole Reed, as the Trojans defeated Lakeville South 4-0 Wednesday, May 24, in the Section 1AAAA quarterfinals in New Prague. Pinch-hitter Betty Rynda reached on a one-out single in the fifth, and Megan Giesen, running for Rynda, scored the go-ahead run.
Mia Kraimer pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.
New Prague, the defending champion and top seed in the section, will play Lakeville North at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Todd Park in Austin in the double-elimination tournament. The winner will play again Tuesday, May 30. The loser plays a second game on Thursday, with the winner of that game advancing to Tuesday’s elimination game. The section championship game(s) will be played Thursday, June 1.
