Trojans top Falcons, 3-1
The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team scored three goals in a three-minute span late in the second period and that would be all the offense they needed as they defeated Faribault 3-1 in the Section 1A quarterfinals at New Prague Thursday, Feb. 21.
The Trojans advance to the section semifinals, where they will face Mankato West at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rochester Rec Center. Northfield faces Rochester Lourdes in the other game at 2 p.m.
Faribault led 1-0 after a turnover at the blue line led to a 2-on-0 play late in the first period. Shots were even at 8-8 in the opening period.
New Prague put on the heat in the second period, outshooting the Falcons 14-4, but the Trojans couldn't convert until the 13:30 mark when Alex Gregor scored on a soft shot that just trickled in past the Falcon goaltender.
Exactly one minute later Austin Kilian made it a 2-0 game when he took a pass from 15 feet out and blasted it into the net.
Gregor got credit for the Trojan's third goal when he tipped a shot in front of the net.
The Trojans outshot the Falcons 34-17. Evan Bisek stopped 16 shots.
Other semifinal scores in Section 1A:
Rochester Lourdes 8, Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter/TCU 2
