Trojans top West, come up short at Richfield

The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team ran into a hot goalie Thursday, Nov. 11, and the result was their first loss of the young season, 2-1 at Richfield. Two days earlier, New Prague had a strong effort against Mankato West, winning at home, 5-2.

Trojans 5, Scarlets 2

In a rematch from last year's Section 1A championship, the Trojans came out on the attack and scored the game's first goal, a shot from inside the blueline by freshman defender Breanna Bisek, at 7:27. Assists went to Jodie Jabas and Jessie Doig.

But West came right back just 18 seconds later to tie the game.

Another freshman, Kacy Ambroz, gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 10:04.

In the second period, Jenna Kilpatrick and Doig both found the back of the net. Ambroz assisted Kilpatrick on her power play goal, at 10:17, while Doig's tally was unassisted and came right before the buzzer sounded to end the period.

West made it 4-2 with a power play goal at 10:17. The Trojans got another buzzer beater as Ambroz scored, with assists from Kilpatrick and Courtney Sivula, at 16:59.

New Prague outshot the Scarlets 33-29. Freshman goaltender Daedra Culshaw stopped 27 shots for the Trojans.

This was a good test for our team to see how much we have improved since last year. We moved the puck very well and are doing a lot better in our defensive zone
