Trojans win Section 2A gymnastics crown
The New Prague Trojan gymnastics team won the Section 2A championship Friday, Feb. 15, in Watertown.
The Trojans had a school record 148.675 points, nearly seven points better than the second-place finisher Watertown-Mayer.
In addition to the team title, the Trojans had three individual champions and won 12 of the 20 individual spots in the state tournament. Jess Niedermayer placed first on bars and second on beam, Sarah Hoffman was first on beam and second on vault, and Bridget Ellanson was first on floor. Other state qualifiers were Jaimie Niedermayer, second in all-around, second on floor, third on vault and fourth on bars, Ashley Nerud second on bars, Christine Simon third on bars and Sydney Samson fourth on vault. The state team championships are at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion, with the individual championships at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
