Two incumbents defeated in township elections

Two area incumbent township supervisors were defeated at the polls during township elections Tuesday. Voters chose new supervisors in New Market and Webster townships.

In New Market township, Ken Chlan defeated incumbent Harry Anderson for a three-year term on the New Market Township Board of Supervisors.

Chlan received 93 votes, to Anderson's 70 to claim the spot on the Town Board. Incumbent treasurer David Frame won another two-year term to that post, with 92 votes. There were eight other candidates who received write-in ballots in the township, in southeastern Scott County.

In Webster Township, Rice County, write-in candidate Joe Horejsi garnered 124 votes, defeating incumbent Lawrence Valek, who had 70. Valek had filed for reelection. Incumbent treasurer Bob Michel was reelected with 173 votes.

Write-in ballots were all that were cast in a tight race for supervisor in Wheatland Township, Rice County. Incumbent Ken Franek did not file for reelection, but that didn't stop him from being reelected to another three-year term. Franek received 96 write-in votes, with Diane Johnson getting 95 write-in votes. Myron Zimanske received one write-in vote. No one had filed for the position during the filing period.

Gary Bruggentheis was elected to another term as Wheatland Township Treasurer, with 95 votes.

There is a new treasurer in Derrynane Township, Rice County, where the only candidate on the ballot, Peter Nytes, received 15 votes. Incumbent Ralph Weiers did not seek reelection. James Kroyer was reelected supervisor with 15 votes.

Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County, returned Rosemary Rynda as treasurer with 23 votes and Leonard Pexa as supervisor with 19 votes. There were two write-in votes for David Goodfellow for supervisor.
