Two killed in farm accident in Scott County

Two people, reportedly a father and son, were killed Sunday morning, Oct. 16,  on a family farm in Sand Creek Township, Scott County.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has issued the following press release:

On October 16, 2016, at approximately 10:11 a.m., two Scott County men were fatally electrocuted while working on a family farm on the 20800 block of Xanadu Avenue in Sand Creek Township.  “It appears that the men had been lifting a farming auger when it made contact with an overhead power line,” said Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen. Scott County Dispatch was contacted after a family member found the two men unresponsive.  Upon arriving at the scene, deputies initiated CPR and defibrillation on both individuals.  Despite these resuscitation efforts, a 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.  A 25-year-old man was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center by an air ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Jordan Fire Department, Allina Ambulance, and Jordan Police Department assisted Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.  “It is with a heavy heart that I can confirm that this incident took the lives of two of our residents,” said Sheriff Hennen. “Clearly, this is a tragedy for their families as well as the entire community.”

The names of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
