Two Missota hoops' wins for Trojan girls

New Prague's girls basketball team extended its Missota Conference winning streak to 32 games with a pair of wins over Prior Lake and Shakopee last week. The Trojan's streak ended Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a 56-55 loss to Holy Angels. Details on that game will be in next week's issue.

The Trojans play at Hutchinson Thursday, Jan. 29, then return home to face Northfield Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Trojans 82, Lakers 59

Both New Prague and Prior Lake were hot from three-point range in the first half of their conference game Tuesday, Jan. 20. The Trojans made six three-pointers, five by senior guard Amanda Wagner, and the Lakers countered with six of their own. The Trojans led by five points at halftime, 41-36.

Only New Prague was able to maintain the pace in the second half, as they pulled away for an 82-59 win. Wagner had a game-high 23 points, 19 of those in the first half. Maggie Weiers added 20 and Brit Rynda 13 for New Prague. Also scoring were Kayla Gill and Hannah Strop with eight each, Rena Kneeland with four and Maggie Seter and Elly Reinke with three apiece.

Trojans 57, Sabers 30

New Prague held Shakopee to just nine field goals in their Missota Conference game at Shakopee Friday. The Trojans defeated the Sabers 57-30.

Wagner continued her hot hand from outside, hitting three three-pointers in the first half and scored a game-high 15. Scoring was more balanced, with three other Trojans in double figures. Strop had 11, while Rynda and Weiers had 10 each. Gill tallied five and Seter and Kneeland had three each.

Weiers also pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked four shots, while Wagner had four assists.
