Union Pacific Railroad’s ‘Ride for Safety’ set for May 25

Union Pacific Railroad will offer a Ride for Safety Wednesday, May 25, with two trips, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The train will board at the New Prague Depot.

The Union Pacific’s St James Area Employee Club #70 is offering this unique opportunity. The club is inviting leaders from New Prague and the surrounding area to take part in this event.

Seating will be limited on this passenger train, and priority is given to transportation, education, law enforcement and emergency professionals, along with business leaders from the area.

During the train ride, which lasts about an hour, a presentation will be made on rail and grade crossing safety.

Railroad officials are inviting judges, law enforcement officers, city and county officials, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, public works employees, chamber of commerce officials, school bus drivers, trucking company officials, postal employees, media professionals, school officials, major employers and licensed drivers from the general public to take part in this event.

The railroad asks that good judgement prevail and no one attempt to ride the train who needs assistance getting on or off the train.

Tickets are free, and are available at The New Prague Times office. Tickets must be picked up in advance and a waiver signed in order to ride.
