Highway 30 east of Mapleton is open

 

Mankato, Minn. – (8:30 a.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that Highway 30 east of Mapleton opened around 6 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 27, after being closed since Sept. 22.  .

All highways in south central Minnesota that were closed due to flood waters are now open.

 

Highways that were previously impacted by flood waters include:

 

Highway 30 east of Mapleton between Blue Earth CRs 161 and 14 (open 6 a.m. Tuesday)

Highway 83 Mankato to Blue Earth County Road 90 (open 9 a.m. Monday)

Highway 14 east and westbound at Janesville (open Sunday a.m.)

Highway 13 at New Richland (open at 5 p.m. Friday)

Highway 30 at New Richland (open between 1-2 p.m. Friday)

Highway 14 east and westbound at Waseca (opened at 11 a.m. Friday)

Highway 13 south of Waseca (opened at 5 p.m. Thursday)

Highway 83 Waldorf to Pemberton (opened early Friday)

Highway 83 at St. Clair (this is a correction only county roads were closed at St. Clair)

Highway 71 at Sanborn – cleared around 9 a.m.

Highway 22 near Kasota has been cleared of debris

Highway 169 mudslide north of Mankato has been cleared – Note: Crews will be doing additional slide repair this week.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced on Friday, Sept. 23, that east and westbound Highway 14 by Waseca has been re-opened after being closed by floodwater since early yesterday.

 

Highway 14 traffic near Janesville remains detoured as water levels are still high.  The detour is Blue Earth County Road 60 (old Highway 14 through Janesville) and south on Blue Earth County Road 3 back to Highway 14.

 

Highways CLOSED include:

 

*       Highway 13 at New Richland

*       Highway 14 east and westbound at Janesville

*       Highway 30 east of Mapleton between BE Co. 161 and 14

*       Highway 30 at New Richland (closed 6 p.m. Thursday)

 

Highways now clear:

 

*       Highway 14 east and westbound at Waseca (opened at 11 a.m. Friday)

*       Highway 13 south of Waseca (opened at 5 p.m. Thursday)

*       Highway 83 Waldorf to Pemberton (opened Friday at 8:30 a.m.)

*       Highway 83 at St. Clair (this is a correction only county roads were closed at St. Clair)

*       Highway 71 at Sanborn - cleared around 9 a.m. Thursday

*       Highway 22 near Kasota has been cleared of debris - Thursday

*       Highway 169 mudslide north of Mankato has been cleared - Thursday

 

Officials warn that roads may be closed or restricted without warning as flash flooding is difficult to predict.  They also advise motorists to watch for cones and barrels on the roadways as they indicate potential hazards where damage occurred during the recent flooding.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises travelers that several flooded roads will remain closed overnight including Highway 14 in the Janesville and Waseca areas where water levels have risen since this morning.

 

Highway 14 traffic near Janesville is being detoured to Blue Earth County Road 60 (old Highway 14 through Janesville) and south on Blue Earth County Road 3 back to Highway 14.

 

Highway 14 traffic at Waseca is being detoured north on Highway 13 and west on Highway 60.

 

Highway 13 south of Waseca has the potential to open later tonight.

 

Highways CLOSED include:

Highway 13 south of Waseca (potential opening later today)

Highway 13 at New Richland

Highway 14 east and westbound at Janesville  - detoured

Highway 14 east and westbound at Waseca – detoured

Highway 30 east of Mapleton between BE Co. 161 and 14 (uncertain if it will open later today)

Every flood is dangerous. If you must travel, follow these safe driving practices:

Check www.511mn.org before traveling for information on road conditions, closures and detour routes.

Expect the unexpected – flash floods can occur anytime, anywhere.

Do not drive around barricades or into flooded areas. 

If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground, if you can do so safely.

 

Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles and pick-ups.

 

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
