Vincent Wilmes, 77

Vincent P. Wilmes, 77, of Waterville, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Born on August 30, 1929, in Mankato, Vincent was the son of Nicholas and Clara (Becker) Wilmes. He graduated from SS. Peter and Paul's School in Mankato. In June 1953, Vincent married to Donna Johnson in Mankato. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed by Kato Engineering/ Reliance Electric until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, a past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, a past Waterville city councilman and was involved with the Waterville Wrestling Club. Vince enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and spending time with his family and the close friends he had coffee with every morning.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Wilmes of Waterville; seven children, Lynn (Craig) Connors of Waseca, Monica (Jeff) Wepking of Avon, SD, Wayne (Jan) Wilmes, Gerard Wilmes, Greg Wilmes and Jason Wilmes, all of Waterville, and Mary Hagel of New Prague; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Gretchen) Wilmes of Remer; mother-in-law, Doris Johnson of St. Paul; and one very special dog, Diamond. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Merle Wilmes.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville and was also held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. A rosary service was held on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements were with the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville.
