A visit to the New Prague Farmer's Market

It was a sunny and warm day at the New Prague Farmer's Market on Wednesday, Aug. 26. The 12 vendors at the market in the parking lot of Community Baptist Church, 500 Co. Rd. 37 in New Prague, had a wide range of items.
Among them were fresh sweetcorn, lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and various peppers. Others had honey, jams, jellies, home-brewed soda pop, flowers and small home made wood furniture.
Like many vendors, Helen Kabes of New Prague had various products on her table including vegetables and hand sewn articles. She and David and Joan Pint of New Prague have been with the market since it started. Kabes estimated the market began 15 years ago. Both she and the Pints noted at that time it was held next to the Fairway Grocery store, which is where Ace Hardware and Paint is now located.
The Farmer's Market has moved around town. Jim Slinkard of New Prague, manager of the market, said it was in the parking lot of Strike Force Bowl for about five years. The market then moved across the street near Philipp Square Apartments, where it was for two years. It has been at the Community Baptist Church's parking lot for three years.
Customers have followed it. Slinkard estimated they have 200 people on a good day.
