Weiers tops 1,000-point mark

New Prague High School senior Maggie Weiers topped the 1,000-point mark for her high school career during a 59-38 win over the Jaguars Saturday, Jan. 16.

Weiers reached the milestone with a free throw midway through the first half. She is a four-year varsity player and is averaging 16.2 points per game this season.

New Prague (8-5, 1-1 Missota) won two of three games last week, defeating Holy Angels and Jordan and losing to Shakopee. The Trojans are ranked No. 3 in Class AAA, and were scheduled to play at Prior Lake (No. 10, Class AAAA) Tuesday. They will go on the road on consecutive nights this week, at Albert Lea Thursday, Jan. 21, and at Northfield Friday, Jan. 22. They return home for a Missota Conference match with Hutchinson Tuesday, Jan. 26.



Trojans 55, Stars 26

New Prague had no problems against Holy Angels Tuesday, jumping to a 27-13 halftime lead and defeating the Stars 55-26.

Hannah Strop led the Trojans with 16 points, while Weiers added 11. Also scoring for the Trojans were Anna Rynda with 8, Rena Kneeland with 7, Maggie Seter 5, Taylor Rookaird 4, and Sara Rookaird and Ellie Reinke with 2 each.

Strop pulled down eight rebounds for the Trojans and Kneeland had seven. She also had four steals while Weiers had three blocked shots.

Sabers 44, Trojans 39

New Prague had a dismal night shooting, making less than 25 percent of their shots as the Sabers upset the Trojans 44-39.

The Trojans did not have any players in double figures. Strop had nine points, Weiers 8, Seter and Kneeland 7 each, Taylor Rookaird 4, Makayla Reimers and Reinke had 2 each. The Trojans had 20 turnovers, which didn't help their cause. Weiers grabbed eight rebounds and Kneeland had seven steals.



Trojans 59, Jaguars 38

New Prague rebounded from their loss to Shakopee by taking a 30-13 halftime lead over Jordan and finished with a 59-38 win Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16.

Weiers' finished the game with 16 points, giving her 1,011 in her career. She joins Randie Wirt and Whitney Trecker as the only Trojan girls to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.

Joining Weiers in double figures were Strop with 15 and Reimers with 10. Also scoring for the Trojans were Taylor Rookaird with 7, Seter with 5, Rynda with 4 and Sara Rookaird with 2.

The Trojans held on to the ball, committing just 11 turnovers. Weiers had three blocked shots, while Seter, Reimers and Strop had three assists each.
