Welcome Home Party planned for state participants
A Welcome Home Party will be held for the Trojan 2006 winter sports state tournament participants, including the girls hockey team; gymnasts Melanie Deutsch, Brittany Ellanson and Jessica Hoffman; wrestlers Caleb Lines, Eric Olson, Travis Rutt and Jake Schoenecker; and the girls basketball team.
The party will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 20 in the New Prague High School gym. Everyone is welcome!
Trojans drop state tourney opener
The New Prague girls basketball team couldn’t match the firepower of No. 1-ranked Marshall, losing their Class AAA state tournament quarterfinal game, 53-42 on Wednesday, March 15, at the U of M Sports Pavilion.
The Trojans fell behind in the first half, trailing by as many as 16 points. But they started the second half strong, pulling to within five points at 36-31. Then Marshall came up with the big plays when they needed them and stayed in control.
The Tigers held a big advantage on the boards outrebounding the Trojans 38 to 22.
Senior Mandy Haecherl led the Trojans with 12 points.
New Prague finishes its season with a 21-7 record.
