Wick, Tomlinson run well at state CC meet

New Prague High School freshman Molly Wick earned all-state honors by placing 18th at the Minnesota Class AA girls cross country meet Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Senior Preston Tomlinson also ran strong at the boys meet, finishing 64th of 160 runners.

Wick, who finished fourth at the Section 2AA meet a week earlier, kept near the leaders for much of the first half of the race, and was just 13 seconds off the pace at the one-mile mark. She finished the 4,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 2 seconds. Cassy Opitz of Eden Prairie was the winner, in 14:24.5.

Eden Prairie won the team competition with 48 points, while Lakeville North was second and Woodbury third. Adrian won the Class A title

Tomlinson also had a strong start, and was just seven seconds off the lead at the one mile mark. But he couldn't keep up the pace and finished the 5,000-meter course in 16:41.4. Lukas Gemar of Moorhead won the race in 15:23.1.

Wayzata won the team championship with 55 points. Eden Prairie was second and Moorhead third. Blake won the team championship in Class A.
