Wilfrid Goettl, 81

Wilfrid Norbert Goettl, 81, of Le Center, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Wilfrid was born February 8, 1931, in Mankato to Louis Paul and Marie Magdelin (Hartung) Goettl. He married LaVonne (Le- Brun) Goettl on August 17, 1955, at St. Clair Immaculate Conception Church. In 1950 he started working at the Mankato Creamery. In 1952 he and his brother Cletus started farming together near Nicollet and also worked for Bird’s Eye harvesting peas. In 1953 they rented some farms by Eagle Lake and worked in the winter at a seed company, a lumber company and for his uncle Norbert Goettl’s Feed Service. He was a charter member of St. Mary’s KC’s, involved in Pioneer Power, served on the community and Cordova Township boards, and owned Willie’s Toy Room where he sold toys. He enjoyed gardening, farming, and playing cards with friends. Wilfrid is survived by his wife LaVonne Goettl; children Janice (Roger) Willems of Northfield, Dorothy Knish (fiance Dick Esser) of Kilkenny, Laurie (Steve) Schatz of Le Center, Robert (Lori) Goettl of Le Center, Helen (Wayne) Zuelch of Le Center, Rosann Goettl (friend Branden Johnson) of New Prague and Jerome (Carrie) Goettl of Le Center; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings Julian Goettl of Mankato, Cletus (Elaine) Goettl of Lake Crystal, Adeline Sieberg of Eagle Lake, Roger (Sandra) Goettl of Le Center, Mary Lou (Marlyn) Denn of Waseca, Louis (Donna) Goettl of Eagle Lake and Richard (Phyllis) Goettl of Mankato; brother-in-law Francis Sweiger of Cleveland and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by son Gary; his parents; brother; Bernard (and Delores) Goettl; sisters; Lorraine (and Gerald) Frederick and Elaine Sweiger, sister-in-law, Mary Goettl and brother-in-law, Curtis Sieberg Funeral services will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center. Visitation will be held at Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and one hour prior to the funeral at the Church in the Gathering Space. Monetary donations will be used for St. Mary’s building fund or cancer research.
