Willy Wonka is coming to town

Generations Theatre Company has a sweet treat for New Prague this summer. Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka will take the stage July 24, 25, 26, 31 and August 1 and 2 in the New Prague High School auditorium. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.

The musical, sponsored by State Bank of New Prague, mixes Dahl's classic story with the music from the 1971 Gene Wilder film, as well as some new tunes, to add a little sugar and spice to favorite characters Charlie, Grandpa Joe, Veruca Salt, the Oompa Loompas and of course Willy Wonka.

Generations Theatre Company has brought back several members of their creative team this summer: Elise Lundeen (director), Sandy Gallagher (musical director), Chris Plambeck (choreography), Dan Cross (set and lighting design), Joan Michel (props), as well as the talents of Katherine Gorr (vocal direction), and Amy Amundson (costumes). Mix them and a cast of nearly 100 people, a fly team to add special effects, and lots and lots of candy, and you've got the recipe for a great evening of entertainment.

The talent and dedication to the theatre in New Prague and surrounding communities never ceases to amaze me. Willy Wonka will be a feast for the eyes and for the taste buds
