Winona dashes past Trojans
The New Prague Trojan football team ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the No. 1-ranked Class AAAA Winona, losing to the Winhawks 41-14 at Trojan Stadium Friday, Sept. 15.
New Prague punted on their first four possessions and Winona scored each ensuing possession to take a 28-0 lead. The Trojans got on the scoreboard when Tyler Montanye capped a drive with a 2-yard run, making it 28-7.
Winona scored again to make it 34-7. The Trojans appeared headed for another score, but fumbled inside the Winona 5-yard line. Winona drove the length of the field in under two minutes to make it 41-7 at halftime.
The two teams were scoreless in the second half until the Trojans’ Mitch Callahan scored on a 41-yard run late in the game.
New Prague (1-2) will try to get back in the win column when they travel to Northfield for a 7 p.m. game Friday, Sept. 22. The Raiders (3-0) defeated Faribault 24-0 Friday.
