Woman killed in hit-and-run crash in ENM
An Army National Guard member from Elko New Market was killed early Sunday morning, Sept. 25, in her hometown when she was struck by a hit-and-run motorcyclist on Main Street.
Mollie Mahowald, 24, daughter of Pete and Peg Mahowald, was a 2010 New Prague High School graduate and a wheeled vehicle technician with the Minnesota Army National Guard with the rank of specialist. She had served at least one tour of duty in the Middle East. She was with friends along the side of Main Street at about 2:24 a.m. in Elko New Market when a motorcycle speeding through town struck her, then fled.
Mahowald was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was arrested a short time later at his home in Dakota County. Charges are pending against the driver, who reportedly had a revoked license and has a long history of criminal charges. He is being held in the Scott County Jail. The Elko New Market Police and Scott County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
