Woyda receives Eagle Scout award

Tyler Woyda has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. He is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. Woyda, a member of New Prague Boy Scout Troop 323, was honored at an Eagle Scout ceremony held at the American Legion Clubroom on September 24. He is the son of Paul and Kari Woyda.

Woyda’s Eagle Scout project involved making repairs and improvements to the New Prague Area Schools’ Living Lab. The paths around the pond at the Living Lab were sprayed for weeds and then covered with gravel. Five wooden benches were built and placed along the trail, and the floating dock and ramp were repaired. In addition, two floating goose nests were built and installed in the pond. Thirty-two volunteers assisted with Woyda’s project. The volunteers put in a total of 213 hours.

Throughout Woyda’s Scout career, he has earned 40 merit badges, contributed more than 146 hours to recognized service projects, logged a total of 101 nights of overnight camping, and has held a number of troop positions, including Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Den Chief, Instructor, Quartermaster, Senior Patrol Leader, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He completed Silver Pathfinder Junior Leader Training and was honored by his fellow Scouts by being elected to the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of scouting. Currently, Woyda is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He has earned the Ad Altare Dei religious award, the 50 Miler award, the World Conservation award, BSA Snorkeling, and the Den Chief Service award. On September 15, 2004, Woyda earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition, he has earned three Eagle Palms, bronze, gold, and silver.
