Wrestlers to host Prior Lake Friday
The New Prague Trojan wrestling team lost a dual meet to St. Michael Albertville last week, then sent a partial squad to compete in the Tri-City United Invitational, where they placed sixth of eight teams.
Next for the Trojans is the annual "Highway 13 Collision" with Prior Lake on Friday, Jan. 13. New Prague will host the meet, which features middle school matches starting at 4:30 p.m., junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Knights 40, Trojans 16 New Prague faced off against state power St. Michael-Albertville in St. Michael Thursday, Jan. 5, and lost to the Knights, ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, by a 40-16 score.
The Knights built a 19-0 lead in the first four matches with two falls, a major decision and decision. Max Scheffler stopped the run with a 7-5 overtime decision at 132 pounds and Sam Reyant claimed a major decision at 138.
St. Michael won the next three matches, two by decision and one by fall, then the Trojans won three straight, with Nick Arguedas winning a 5-1 decision at 170, Tyler Montanye taking a 5-4 win at 182 and Brennan Rutt taking a 5-0 win at 195 pounds. The Knights won....
