Wrestlers win 3 of 4 at home

The New Prague Trojan wrestling team won three of four home matches last week.

New Prague defeated Faribault and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Tuesday, Jan. 15, then split on Thursday, beating Farmington and losing to Medford. The team has a 12-13 record (3-0 Missota) going into the Lake City Invitational on Saturday. The Lake City meet is a change from the original schedule. Teams scheduled to compete are Stewartville, St. Paul Johnson, Caledonia, Chatfield, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Medford, New Prague and St. Charles. On Thursday, Jan. 31, the Trojans will wrestle in a Missota Conference Dual against Prior Lake, rated No. 4 in Class AAA.

Trojans 55, Buccaneers 20

New Prague benefited from five forfeits by Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a 55-20 win Tuesday, Jan. 15, at New Prague.

The Trojans opened with a pair of pins by Natalie Rutt at 103 pounds and Morgan Parriott at 112. Then came two forfeit wins, by Aaron Redding at 119 and Kody Dolezal at 125.

The Bucs earned a decision at 130, then forfeited three more matches to Alex Minette (135), Zach Hindricher (140) and Nik Peterson (145).

Jon Vlasak followed with a major decision at 152, and Eric Grabosky got a decision at 160 to make it a 49-3 score in the Trojans' favor.

Jay Reinke got a pin at 189 for the other Trojan win. WEM won three of the final four matches.

Trojans 48, Falcons 24

New Prague won the first seven matches to take a 36-0 lead on their way to a 48-24 win over Faribault Tuesday.

The Trojans' Justin VanDayn and Zane Bucher got forfeit wins at 103 and 112 pounds respectively. Redding won with a pin at 119, and Dolezal won a decision at 125.

Erick Pendergast won by forfeit at 130, then Alex Minette took an 11-5 decision at 135, and Ryan Schmitz won by forfeit at 140.

The Trojans won two more matches, both by fall. Grabosky won at 160, and Reinke won at 189.

New Prague went to 3-0 in the Missota Conference with a 43-25 win over Farmington in the opening match of a triangular meet Thursday.

New Prague again jumped out to a big lead, winning the first five matches for a 22-0 lead. Winning were Rutt (forfeit), Parriott and Redding (decisions), Dolezal (pin) and Pendergast (major decision).

Also winning for the Trojans were Schmitz (pin), Vlasak (forfeit), Grabosky (decision) and Reinke (forfeit).
