Wrestlers win four matches, go to .500

New Prague High School’s wrestling team won four matches last week and evened its season record at 15-15. The team defeated Farmington Friday, then won three matches to take first place at the Rosemount Quadrangular on Saturday.

Trojans 57, Tigers 21

New Prague received a gift as they won six matches by forfeit. At one point, they led 30-15 without having won a match on the mat.

But New Prague took control in the late matches and eased their way to a 57-21 win.

The Trojans got pins from Eric Olson (152 pounds), Kevin Olson (160), and Jake Schoenecker (215), and Caleb Lines (171) won by decision. The Trojans got forfeit wins by Alex Minette (119), David Doran (125), Shane Nelson (130), Travis Rutt (135), Aaron Becker (140) and Zach Flicek (189).

Trojans 58, Royals 15

After forfeiting the first match, the Trojans won six straight matches, two by forfeit on their way to a 58-15 win.

Woodbury forfeited six matches, including three in a row.

The Trojans got their only pin from Kevin Olson (189). Erick Pendergast (112) won by technical fall and the Trojans got decisions from Rutt (135), Becker (140), Eric Olson (152), and forfeit wins from Minette, David Doran, Nelson, Lines, Matt Arens (215) and Schoenecker (275).

Trojans 39, Irish 35

Rosemount led most of the way, but the Trojans again finished strong to take the win.

After forfeiting at 103, Erick Pendergast scored a pin at 112. Rosemount won the next two matches, then Shane Nelson (130) scored a 12-5 decision.

The Trojans lost a technical fall at 135, and Rutt followed with a pin at 140. The Irish took a 29-15 lead with a pin at 145 pounds.

The Trojans got three straight wins, pins by Eric Olson and Lines, and a decision by Zack Flicek to take a 30-29 lead.

A Rosemount pin at 189 gave the Irish a 35-30 lead. Matt Arens scored a pin at 215 pounds, giving the Trojans a 36-35 lead and leaving it up to Jake Schoenecker to clinch the win at 275.

After trailing 3-1, Schoenecker got a takedown and a near fall to lead 6-4 after two. His opponent scored a late takedown to take a 9-8 lead, but Schoenecker scored a reversal and held on for the 10-9 win, giving the Trojans a 39-35 win.
