Wrestling team lacks three at dual

The TCU wrestling team had a dual against Waconia on December 6 and finished with a overall score of 25-45, due in part to some missing Titan wrestlers.
Coach Brian Mikel said the team performed fairly well considering they were missing three main wrestlers,  Marko and Max Arroyo and Mason Rutt.
Mikel said captains Mason Brownlee and Josh Selly both had good matches. Brownlee won with a major decision (11-3), and Selly pinning his opponent in three minutes and 15 seconds.
Seventh grader Jack Mueller had his first varsity win at 113 pounds. Alex Burns also recorded a pin at 285 pounds.
Kyle Hubert had an impressive night as well recording a pin at 170 pounds.
The team also had a team tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Prior Lake. Mikel said the Titans nearly defeated Farmington with a final score of 30-43. But, he said there was no such luck against Simley, the 2012 State Champions, with a score of 12-68.
Burns recored a pin at heavyweight in the Simley dual.
In the first dual, TCU fell to Prior Lake, 15-48.
Mikel said Hubert had a good day winning two of his three matches. “He pinned his kids from Farmington and Prior Lake,” the coach said.
Mason Brownlee had a tough match against Jake Short, ranked first in state, from Simley. Brownlee was defeated in that match.
“He's a good wrestler” Brownlee said. “You just have to watch the video tape and learn from your mistakes.”
The wrestlers have an over-night tournament this weekend, December 14 and 15, at the Redwood River Riot, in Redwood Falls.  The start time on Friday is 4 p.m.
