Xcel Energy builds berm to protect substation
Waters rising over the banks of the Whitewater River in Waterville flooded Lions Park on Third Street and also pooled around Xcel Energy’s substation, Thursday, Sept. 22. While the flood water didn’t pose a problem early Thursday morning, Xcel Energy crews monitored the situation and built a large berm between the substation and the river.
Waterville city crews pumped thousands of gallons of diluted sanitary sewer water from the system around noon to prevent back-ups into homes.
