Morschings named Bullhead Days Parade Grand Marshals

For years, almost 20, Richard and Wanda Morsching have spent the second weekend in June running the Waterville Bullhead Days Bullhead Stand.

Approximately 20 years before they took over this beloved portion of the Waterville celebration, they first met at Bullhead Days when Richard was serving beverages in the beer garden.

“I met my soulmate at Bullhead Days,” Wanda said. “Richard was bartending at the beer garden when I saw him. Jeff Stangler was going to wait on me but I said I wanted him (Richard).”

Thirty-eight years ago they had their first date because of Bullhead Days and this year they will be married 35 years. Had it not been for the annual celebration they may never have met.

Their relationship started at Bullhead Days and without their two decade run as Bullhead Stand sponsors, this festival may have been without the delicious fish thousands come to eat every summer.

Their dedication to Bullhead Days and keeping the tradition alive is one of the reasons why the Morschings have been named the Bullhead Days Parade Grand Marshals.

The Morschings, who have three grown children, one grandchild and one on the way, have handed over the reins of the bullhead stand to long-time friends Jason and Kelly Dillon and Cory and Tricia Dillon, who have helped with the stand for many years.

For years the bullhead stand was sponsored by the Waterville Sportsmen’s Club. Richard’s father, Nelmer, was asked by the Sportsman’s Club if he would take over the stand and a few years later Richard and Wanda took over the full operation in 2005.

With the help of family, friends, and of course members of the Sportsmen’s Club members, the stand continued to be in integral part of the Waterville celebration.

The work involved in putting this well-oiled fish frying machine together is much more than you would think.
