Region baseball tournaments start Aug. 4
Six Dakota-Rice-Scott League baseball teams will compete in two region tournaments in the area. The six teams competing will be determined by the divisional playoffs that began Tuesday, July 27, and continue through this weekend.
Teams have not been determined at press time. Fans looking for game information should check The New Prague Times website at newpraguetimes.com. Information will be updated as it is received.
Region 3C tourney
The Region 3C baseball tournament begins on Wednesday, Aug. 4 and will continue on a Wednesday-Friday-Sunday schedule through Sunday, August 15.
The teams involved are the champions and runners-up of the D-R-S Red and Blue divisions and the Classic Cannon Valley League champion.
A five-team double elimination format is scheduled. The schedule for the first three rounds:
Wednesday, Aug. 4, 8 p.m. - DRS Blue runner-up at DRS Red runner-up.
Friday, Aug. 6, 8 p.m. - Two games. D-R-S Red champion at D-R-S Blue champion; Wednesday's winner at CCVL champion.
Sunday, Aug. 8, 2 p.m. - One game in the winners bracket; one game in the losers bracket.
The tourney continues Wed., Aug. 11, Fri., Aug. 13 and Sun., Aug. 15.
Region 6C tourney
This tourney is a six-team modified double-elimination event among two teams each from the River Valley League's East and Central divisions and the D-R-S White Division.
Play starts on Friday, Aug. 6, and continues Sunday, Aug. 8, Wednesday, Aug. 11, Friday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 15.
Friday, Aug. 6, 8 p.m. - RVLC #2 at D-R-S #1; D-R-S #2 at RVLW #1; RVLW #2 at RVLC #1.
Sunday, Aug. 8 - 2 p.m. - Winner of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 3; Winner of Game 2 vs. Winner of Game 3.
Tournament games continue on Wednesday, Aug. 11, Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14.
Updated schedule will appear in the August 5 edition of The New Prague Times.
Tourney champions and runners-up will participate in the Minnesota Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament, which begins August 19 and continues through Labor Day, (September 6) at Bird Island and Willmar.
Draft Picks
Teams qualifying and competing in Class C Region play are allowed two draft picks from losing teams in their league division and they must be a pitcher or catcher and used as such. If a drafted player is not a region game starter, he must be used on defense first before he may bat.
Section 6B tourney
The Elko Express are competing in the Class B playoffs this year. They are in Section 6 and will compete against the following teams for a spot in the State Class B Tournament: Burnsville, Lakeville, Savage, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Eagan, Inver Grove Heights. Playoff information will be posted when it becomes available.
