Halfway to St. Patty’s is full of fun!

The annual Halfway to St. Patty’s Day celebration this past weekend was a family-fun event.

Kids enjoyed barrel-train rides, playing in a bounce house, and games complete with prizes. The kids-at-heart and of any age could partake in the daily offerings of music through most of the festivities, fireworks at dusk on Saturday, the vehicles on display at the car show Sunday, or any number of food and beverage options available.

Saturday’s parade was a great highlight with what seemed to be all of Kilkenny’s line-up of fire vehicles. Anyone who wanted their fill of candy was welcomed with full handfuls from most parade participants. The Mankato T-Bird Shriners were the parade show-stopper though, showing up with wheelies and 45-degree, two-wheel side driving.

Not to be missed but delayed by about a half hour were the coveted Toilet Bowl Races. Adults and children both competed. The whole objective is to take your “throne” to the start line, run to the cone for a drink, mount your throne while two winded friends push you to the opposite set of cones, dismount your throne to complete another drink, remount your throne and have your two friends push you back (uphill) to finish first. Adults were given a beer to drink and the kids soda. Sometimes the heaviness of the throne cart or the lack of athletic ability played as factors in whether or not you could win.
